Poker Cards: Telling the Ranks

Are you new to the ranks of poker cards? Now, let us take for example that Ben Affleck, a poker fan, was teaching Jennifer Garner to play poker.

Ben Affleck having finished fixing his poker table decided to invite Jennifer Garner for a poker game. To prepare for the poker game, Ben checked poker supplies at an online poker site for any sales. He placed an order for poker chips. He got interested with the various ads that he began navigating to many online poker sites. He later learned that some online poker sites allowed play without using real money. Many online poker sites offer sign-up bonuses that amazed him. 'I'll try them next time,' he mused.

The First thing Jennifer Garner asked was how she was going to win in a poker game. Ben answered that in a poker game you have to possess the highest poker hand relative to other players to win. Or bluff you have one and force the others to quit or fold. 'What are the rank of poker hands then?' Jennifer asked again. Ben said that the supreme rank beats all other poker hand. The highest rank is the royal flush. It is composed of the five highest cards in the deck namely the ace, king, queen, jack and lastly the ten. They have to be of the same suit. In cases that two players hold royal flushes, they are both winners and will divide the pot.

'Below that,' Ben continued, 'is the straight flush.' In a poker game a straight flush contains any five cards of the same suit and in numerical sequence. An example would be ten, nine, eight, seven, six of spades. When two or more poker players hold a straight flush, anyone who holds the highest card is their straight is the winner.

'What do you mean?' Jennifer asked. 'For example,' Ben replied, 'you have a poker hand of eight, seven, six, five, four of hearts; some other player has a poker hand of nine, eight, seven, six, five of diamonds. And another player possess a ten, nine, eight, seven, six of clubs as a poker hand, then that another player wins because his highest card is ten while the other two (including you) only have eight and nine respectively. But if the top card or high cards are of the same denomination both players tie. If no higher rank of cards is present aside from a straight flush, winner gets the pot.

'Are there still other ranks aside from the two?' Jennifer continued asking. 'Of course,' Ben said laughing. Below the straight flush is the quad or four or a kind. Then below that is the full house.

In a poker game will it be a house poker game or online poker after the full house is the flush then straight, three of a kind, two pairs, one pair and the lowest is the single high card.

These ranks of poker hands hold true in most poker games be it Caribbean stud, Hold'em, Omaha or knock poker.

"Ok," Jennifer said, "deal the cards and let's play!"
